Hyundai i30 N is not just any old car for the south Korean manufacturer. It is the beginning of a new era, the birth of a new-line sports and high-performance (N for Namyang, the center of R & D of the brand in South Korea), and the base of the latest generation of the compact of the brand, the i30, is the starting point. Next to the i30 Fastback, Hyundai unveiled all official details, which is called to be one of the references in the segment of compact sports.
The competition is fierce: Volkswagen Golf GTI and R, Ford Focus RS, Seat Leon Cupra, Peugeot 308 GTI, Honda Civic Type R… For Hyundai supposed to mess directly in the jungle, with a few arguments in sports are trying to get to the heart of the lover of this type of vehicles and that will allow get in to the circuit with warranties, but without missing their practicality, driving pleasure and comfort for use in the day-to-day.
But you would not believe that in the medium term will be the Hyundai i30 N, because it will be the opposite. What we were able to check in our first contact prior to their presentation in a unit camouflaged: the i30 N well can behave as the Doctor Jekyll –docile, with emphasis on the comfort, but without wavering in performance– or as Mr. Hyde –aggressive, quarrelsome, and where the car takes all the sportiness of the interior. Its 5 modes of driving available will have a lot to do in this regard.
So it is the Hyundai i30 N: role mechanical
Hyundai i30 N will have two variants mechanical, based both on the same engine block 2.0 T-GDI four-cylinder, direct fuel injection and supercharged, reinforced for the occasion with specific elements (turbo, cooling,…) and associated only to a manual change of six speeds (same relations between the two steps) and the front-wheel drive. The first level will have 250 CV; the second, with the so-called Kit Performance, it is going up to the 275 HP; both, with 36 mkg of torque. The first accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and the second in 6.1 seconds, reaching in both cases the 250 km/h.
don’t wait for the moment no version more: neither with the change 7DCT of the brand double clutch, or with all-wheel drive, or with powers that are closer to the Honda Civic Type R or VW Golf R. But what you should expect, how not to, is that not only the engine has been retuned with respect to the i30 conventional: as the chassis (stiffness-reinforced, with suspension, multi-link rear), suspensions (electronically controlled to vary their stiffness in different positions), clutch (high resistance), transmission (with shorter distances) body (with elements of the aerodynamic additional), brakes (17 and 16 inches in both axes), or the tires of high performance (Michelin on the wheel and 18-inch Pirelli in the 19-inch, both developed specifically for this model).
Kit Performance, in addition to increase the power by 25 HP, is also associated with a electronic limited slip differential to improve the cornering of the i30 N, 19-inch alloy wheels next to the tires Pirelli 235/35 R19, and a System of Exhaust Valve Variable, that lets you choose between different sounds that can emanate from the tailpipe, and are perceived to be well-differentiated in the passenger compartment.
So it is the Hyundai i30 N: 5 driving modes, Launch Control and more
Eco, Normal, Sport, N and N Custom are the five modes that the driver can enjoy on the Hyundai i30 N. The last two are accessible from the button “N” in the steering wheel. Each mode brings something different in terms of the behavior of the engine, stability control, shock absorbers, differential (with the Kit Performance), the address (electronics), the sound and the function “Rev Matching” which will be explained below.
To all this we must add some interesting aspects in the (sports that influence the behavior and character of the Hyundai i30 N. For example, the system “Launch control”, with the way the “N” enabled and the stability control off; the “Rev Matching”, which adjusts (increases, rather) to the revolutions of the engine when downshifting, being more or less aggressive in such changes; and a sound sports to the height, also thanks to a Sound Generator Electronic.

To be better in circuit and in the turns on mountain roads, the Hyundai i30 N has to go well subject to the asphalt. In addition to providing a look more aggressive and deportivo, the repainted body of the compact Korean has to have a aerodynamics to the height: front bumper, rear and spoiler in behind new bill (the latter with a nifty brake light in the shape of a triangle), body-lowered 4 and 7 mm (depending on the strength chosen), new front air intakes, exhaust with double silencer…
inside, mandan, above all the sport seats, available in finished suede and leather or cloth, and the – exclusive steering wheel N, with stitching in blue and a side account with the selector switch the three driving modes initial, and the other the button “N” to give it the spicy sports of which we spoke before. In addition, the instrument panel electronic has received changes to have at a glance sports information on-board. The icing put the different logos N scattered all around the cabin.
After passing more than 10,000 kilometers of test on the Nürburgring (including the 24-Hour testing at the Green Hell), the new Hyundai i30 N will be manufactured exclusively in the factory of the brand in the Czech Republic (Nosovice) to all the world; in this sense, there will be different specifications for different markets. Will arrive at dealers at the end of this year to a price not yet revealed, but according to Hyundai will be “competitive”.
