Dan Panoz founded Panoz Motorsports in 1989 initially as a racing operation. The first road car, the Roadster, launched in 1992 using a Ford 5.0 V8. The company also competes at international endurance events including the 24 Hours of Le Mans with factory entries. Panoz is one of the few American brands with genuine Le Mans factory racing history outside of Ford and Corvette Racing.
