Overview
The 2025 Lucid Air is the engineering achievement of the American EV industry β a sedan that holds every meaningful EV record: range, 0β60, quarter-mile. Built in Casa Grande, Arizona by a company founded by former Tesla engineers.
Lucid Motors, founded in 2007 and headquartered in Newark, California, represents American engineering innovation at its purest. Every Air is assembled in Arizona β the most domestically produced luxury EV from any brand.

516-Mile Range Engineering
EPA-rated range is tested at moderate speed/temp. Real-world at 70 mph is approximately 319 miles. Cold weather (32Β°F) reduces range ~18%. Towing near max capacity reduces range 40β50%. Always plan charging stops when towing long distances.
Lucid's motors achieve 93% efficiency vs ~88% for competitors. This ~5% advantage doesn't sound significant, but at vehicle scale it translates to 50+ more miles from the same battery size. It's the reason Lucid holds the range record.
The Grand Touring's 516-mile EPA range is achieved through Lucid's proprietary motor technology β the most efficient electric motors in any production vehicle. A 118-kWh battery delivers range that no other EV β Tesla, Rivian, or European β has approached in EPA testing.
900V Architecture
300 kW is faster than the Tesla Model S (250 kW), BMW i7 (195 kW), and Mercedes EQS (200 kW). At a compatible 350-kW DC charger, the Air adds ~300 miles in under 30 minutes.
The Lucid Air uses an 800V electrical architecture (Lucid calls it 900V) β enabling 300-kW DC fast charging. At 300 kW, the Air adds approximately 200 miles of range in 22 minutes β faster than any other luxury EV sedan.
Sapphire Performance
0β60 in 1.89 seconds. This is faster than a Formula 1 car from a standing start at low speed. The Sapphire has run the quarter-mile in 8.95 seconds β the fastest documented time for any production vehicle.
The Air Sapphire delivers 1,234 hp via three motors β a dedicated motor per rear wheel plus one front motor. 0β60 in 1.89 seconds and quarter-mile in 8.95 seconds are verified production car records. The Sapphire's torque-vectoring via individual rear motors creates handling that matches purpose-built track cars.
Reliability
Lucid Air reliability is adequate for a startup brand but below established luxury automakers. Build quality has improved significantly since 2022 launch. Software maturity is the primary ongoing concern.
| Area | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Electric Drivetrain | Good | Motors and battery performing well; low failure rate |
| 300-kW Charging | Average | Some DCFC session failures; improving with software |
| Software / OTA | Average | Complex system; frequent OTAs required; improving |
| Build Quality | Average | 2022 launch had issues; 2024+ production much improved |
| Suspension | Good | Air suspension performing well; smooth ride quality |
| Overall | Average | Improving rapidly; recommend 2024+ model years |
Consult Consumer Reports, J.D. Power, and NHTSA for the specific model year you are considering. Build year matters significantly.
