Overview
The 2026 Chevrolet Colorado (3rd generation, launched 2023) is a significant improvement over its predecessor. The modern interior, powerful turbo-four engine, and class-leading ZR2 have made it one of the top-selling mid-size trucks.
The 2023 Colorado redesign helped GM reclaim mid-size truck market share. The 11.3-inch screen and upscale interior match full-size truck quality at a lower price point.

Powertrain
EPA highway rating measured at 55 mph. Real-world highway at 70 mph is typically 20β22 mpg. Towing near max capacity reduces highway fuel economy 30β40% β budget accordingly for trailer trips.
GM's choice to run one engine in two states simplifies the lineup while giving meaningful differentiation. The high-tune 2.7L is genuinely powerful for a mid-size truck.
Colorado uses a single 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder in two tunes. The base WT gets 237 hp / 259 lb-ft; LT and above get 310 hp / 390 lb-ft β enough for a 0β60 of ~5.4 seconds and 7,700-lb towing.
Towing & Off-Road
ZR2 and Ranger Raptor are the two serious mid-size off-road trucks. ZR2's Multimatic DSSV shocks are arguably the finest dampers available on any production truck. Raptor wins on HP (405 vs 310). ZR2 wins on technical rock capability.
Max tow of 7,700 lb matches the Ranger at the top of the mid-size class. Payload of 1,690 lb is solid. The Trail Boss adds 2-inch lift and AT tires for light off-road; the ZR2 is a purpose-built trail truck.

An even more extreme ZR2 Bison package adds AEV-designed skid plates, underbody armor, and lifted suspension β making it the most capable production mid-size truck for rock crawling.
The ZR2 features Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Spool Valve) position-sensitive dampers β race-proven technology shared with the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. Front and rear electronic locking diffs, rock sliders, and underbody protection are all standard.

3rd-gen Colorado (2023+) has strong initial reliability data. The 2.7L turbo is shared with the Silverado and has good durability. Limited long-term data given the recent launch.
